Job Description: Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM)         

 

The St. Ambrose Coordinator of Youth Ministry will plan, develop, and oversee activities for youth and young adults. 

Work Relationships:

            The CYM is accountable to the Pastor.

            The CYM serves on a pastoral team, meeting regularly with the pastor, other coordinators, and the parish pastoral council as required.

            The CYM must be a fully initiated Roman Catholic in good standing and participate in the weekly Sunday Eucharist and parish events.

            The CYM maintains contact with the Diocesan Office of Education and Formation, follows diocesan guidelines, and attends diocesan meetings. 

Administration:

            Maintains a record keeping system for all youth ministry programs

Prepares an operating budget with the Finance Council 

Programming:

Leadership Development

            Recruits and provides for the training and spiritual formation of volunteers

            Selects and gathers appropriate resources for parish youth ministry

Involves youth in leadership and fundraising

Arranges for youth to attend deanery, diocesan, regional and national conferences

 Prayer and Worship

            Involves youth in parish liturgies

Plans and facilitates a variety of parish retreat experiences for youth

Encourages youth to attend deanery and diocesan retreats 

Community Life

Hosts youth gatherings weekly (possibly Sunday afternoons) as schedule permits

Plans trips and participation in camps

Provides opportunities for service, outreach and evangelization in the parish and community 

Pastoral Care

            Spend time with youth

            Be a listening ear, a spiritual director

Partner with schools and the community to promote effective services for youth 

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree as well as experience and training in youth ministry are preferred. Completion of the Diocesan Formation Program is also preferred and will be required if not previously completed.

Hours: 10-20 hours/week (approx. 1000 hours/year) including some evenings and weekends

Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience
